  • About Erek

Founder of Go Green Ohio:

My name is Erek Hansen.  I’m 19 years old, and now a sophomore in college.  I was nine years old when I read about how denim jeans could be recycled into home insulation for people in need.  I wanted to help.  I held a denim drive in my driveway, and the recycling movement began.

Recycling is something that I am passionate about and like to talk about.  I now hold annual recycling drives for denim jeans and shoes.  The denim gets remanufactured into UltraTouch Denim Insulation to aid in rebuilding homes after a natural disaster and the shoes are sorted and directed to those that need them or recycled into items such as carpet padding, playground mulch and athletic surfaces.

I worked under the project name EcoErek for many years, until I needed to think about the future of the project.  I founded Go Green Ohio in 2015, so that recycling denim and shoes in Northwest Ohio can continue even when my name is not on the project title.

A Little About Me
My favorite sport is soccer and I’ve been playing since I was 5. I played club ball for like 10 years and still love to play pickup games around campus in Cincinnati.  My favorite teams are FC Cincinnati and Liverpool and watch the Premier League and Champions League.

My favorite subjects are math and science, with huge interests in chemical engineering and ‘green’ science.

For downtime, I love to travel and support causes that I believe in.

My hometown is Curtice, Ohio (near Toledo) but I currently live in Cincinnati attending The University of Cincinnati. I have one sister and one brother.
